Make router and filters in n8n
A Make filter sits on the link into a module and lets the bundle through only when its conditions hold. A router sends the bundle down every route whose first filter passes, one route after another. The converter turns each filter into an If node and each route into its own branch, then joins the branches.
What becomes what
| Make | In n8n | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Filter on a link | If | Only the true output continues. AND inside a condition group, OR between groups, as in Make. |
| Router | One If per route, then Merge | Every route whose filter passes runs, in Make's route order. A route without a filter always runs. |
| Text operators | Expression in the If node | Equal, contains, starts or ends with, matches pattern and their negations, case-sensitive unless Make's case-insensitive variant is set. |
| Number, date and time operators | Expression in the If node | Equal, not equal, greater, less, greater or equal, less or equal. Dates compare as timestamps. |
| Array operators | Expression in the If node | Contains and does not contain (case-insensitive variant included), and length comparisons. |
| Exists / Does not exist | Expression in the If node | An empty string counts as missing, as in Make. |
Check after converting
- A fallback route (runs only when no other route matched) is converted as a route that always runs: add the negated conditions in n8n.
- Make processes routes one after another, and n8n runs branches top to bottom by canvas position. Keep the order if a later route depends on an earlier one.
- An unknown operator is set to false and listed in the workflow's notes.
