About Workflow Exit

Updated October 13, 2026

Workflow Exit converts Pipedream workflows into n8n workflows. It exists because Pipedream Workflows is shutting down, and there was no tool to move workflows from Pipedream to n8n.

Why this exists

Pipedream announced that Workflows and String will shut down on March 31, 2027. Workflows are in maintenance mode. Pipedream stopped accepting signups and subscriptions on September 30, 2026. Existing workflows keep running until March 31, 2027. By April 30, 2027, all Workflows data is deleted, including the credentials and OAuth tokens of connected accounts. Pipedream Connect is not affected. See the shutdown timeline for details.

Pipedream built an export tool that downloads the structure of your workflows as JSON, one project at a time. That is a good record of what you built. But nothing imports it. When we checked in October 2026, n8n had no Pipedream importer, and we found no converter on GitHub. The only options were to rebuild every workflow by hand or pay someone to do it.

Rebuilding by hand is slow because of code steps. Many Pipedream code steps import npm packages or call APIs with Pipedream's helpers. n8n Cloud cannot load external npm modules in its Code node; it offers only crypto and moment. Python on n8n Cloud cannot import any libraries. So a lot of code cannot be copied over as it is. It has to be rewritten, step by step.

Workflow Exit automates that work.

What it does

  • Free migration report. Upload your Pipedream export and get a report in your browser. Every workflow gets a traffic-light rating: green converts automatically, yellow needs AI help or a review, red needs manual work. The report lists the accounts to reconnect, the secrets to re-enter, and the data stores and files to save before the deadline. Get your report.
  • Conversion to n8n. Turn your workflows into n8n workflow files you can import. Triggers, actions, branches, expressions and code steps are converted. Code that cannot run on your n8n target is rewritten. Your first workflow conversion is free.
  • Cutover checklist. A list of every credential, variable, webhook URL and manual task, in the order you need them.

The step-by-step migration guide covers the whole move. How it works explains the converter in detail.

Who it is for

  • Developers and small teams with a few dozen Pipedream workflows who need to move them before March 31, 2027 and would rather not rebuild them one node at a time.
  • Teams with a lot of code steps. That is where manual migration takes the most time, and where the converter saves the most.
  • Agencies and freelancers who manage Pipedream workflows for several clients.
  • Anyone still deciding where to go. The free report shows how much of your work maps to n8n, and whether n8n Cloud or self-hosted n8n fits your code better.

If you are moving to a platform other than n8n, the report is still useful as an inventory of what you have. The conversion only targets n8n.

Principles

Deterministic conversion first

Most of a workflow can be converted by fixed rules: triggers, mapped actions, branches, delays, and the expressions that pass data between steps. The same input gives the same output every time. Rules are predictable and easy to check, so we use them wherever we can.

AI only where it is needed

Some code steps cannot be converted by rules alone, such as code that uses an npm package n8n Cloud cannot load, or an action that has no n8n node. Only those steps go to an AI model for a rewrite. AI-rewritten code is marked in the output, so you know exactly which parts to review most carefully.

Validated against real n8n

Every converted workflow is checked before you download it. We parse the code the way n8n runs it, look for imports your n8n target cannot load, and check the workflow structure: node names, connections and the trigger. The converter's test suite imports converted workflows into a real n8n instance and runs them.

A private free report

The free report runs entirely in your browser. Your export is not uploaded to create it. We only count anonymous numbers, such as how many workflows a report had, never their content. When you convert, workflow definitions are processed in memory and not stored afterwards. The Privacy Policy has the details.

Honest about limits

Some things cannot be converted. Private components are not in the export. Pipedream redacts secrets. Data store records and File Store files are not in the export at all. The report says so up front, and the checklist turns each gap into a task. If a workflow is red, we tell you before you pay.

Who runs it

Workflow Exit is run by an independent developer based in the Republic of Moldova. It is a small project with one focus: getting Pipedream users onto n8n before the deadline, with as little manual work as possible.
