Make iterator and aggregators in n8n
In Make, an iterator splits an array into bundles, and everything up to the aggregator that names it as its source runs once per bundle. The converter rebuilds that as a Loop Over Items block, and the aggregator collects what each pass produced.
What becomes what
| Make | In n8n | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Iterator | Loop Over Items | The array becomes one item per element. Inside the loop, references to the iterator read the current item. |
| Array aggregator | Code (collect items) | Returns array and __IMTAGGLENGTH__ like Make, with the aggregator's fields worked out for each item inside the loop. |
| Text aggregator | Code (join) | Joins the rows with the module's row separator. |
| Aggregate to JSON | Code | Returns the collected rows as JSON text. |
| Aggregator after a search module | Code (collect items) | Without an iterator, it collects the incoming n8n items, which match Make's bundles. |
Check after converting
- An iterator with no aggregator runs the rest of the scenario once per item, as in Make.
- A filter on the link into an aggregator filters the items it collects: the report flags it so you can put an If inside the loop.
- If the iterator follows a module that returns many bundles, check that every bundle's array is iterated.
