# How to export your Zaps from Zapier (any plan)

> Source: https://workflowexit.com/export-zapier-zaps · Updated 2026-10-17

Zapier doesn't advertise it, but you can export all your Zaps on any plan. Open **Settings → Security and data** and use **Download my account data** or **Download all private and shared Zaps**. Zapier emails you a ZIP within minutes. Inside it, `zapfile.json` holds every Zap in your account, drafts included, with Zapier's real step ids. We checked both buttons on a new Zapier account in October 2026.

This guide covers the two buttons, what the ZIP contains, what Zapier leaves out, and the per-Zap JSON export that Team and Enterprise accounts also have. When you have the file, drop it into the [free Zapier to n8n report](/zapier-to-n8n).

## The two buttons

Both are on the same page in your Zapier account: **Settings → Security and data**.

| Button | What you get | Plan |
|---|---|---|
| **Download my account data** | ZIP by email: `zapfile.json` plus your other account data | Any plan |
| **Download all private and shared Zaps** | ZIP by email with `zapfile.json` | Worked on a new account in our test |
| Editor → Zap name menu → **Export a JSON data file** | One Zap as a JSON file, downloaded directly | Team and Enterprise, Zap owner only ([Zapier docs](https://help.zapier.com/hc/en-us/articles/16722578092429)) |

Zapier's help center describes the account data download as a ZIP that contains "all undeleted Zap workflows" ([Export or delete your Zapier account data](https://help.zapier.com/hc/en-us/articles/8496289406349)). It doesn't list a plan restriction for it.

Steps:

1. Sign in to Zapier as the account owner.
2. Go to **Settings → Security and data**.
3. Click **Download my account data** (or **Download all private and shared Zaps**).
4. Wait for the email. In our test it came within minutes. Download the ZIP and keep a copy.
5. Unzip it and find `zapfile.json`. You can also give the whole ZIP to the report.

## What the ZIP contains

| File | What it is | Needed to migrate? |
|---|---|---|
| `zapfile.json` | Every Zap: title, on/off status, folder, and each step with its app, action, field values and mappings | Yes, this is the one |
| Other `.json` files | Zapier Chatbots, Agents, knowledge sources and MCP settings | Only if you used those products |
| `task_history_download_urls.csv` | Signed links to your task history | No. Don't share it: anyone with the links can open your run data |

Inside `zapfile.json`, each Zap is a set of steps linked by parent ids. Filters, Paths (nested too), Formatter, Delay, Looping, Digest, Storage, Webhooks, AI by Zapier prompts and the full source of Code by Zapier steps are all there. So are the field mappings, such as `{{202913858__email}}`, which point at earlier steps by their real id.

### Secrets are in the file

Connections are not exported. Each step only carries an `authentication_id` number. But values you **typed into fields** are exported as typed. That includes API keys in a Webhooks header, tokens pasted into Code by Zapier, and passwords in a URL. Zapier itself says the account file contains "the values of the inputs and outputs" of steps.

Keep the ZIP private. Don't post it in a forum or attach it to a support ticket. Our report runs in your browser, so the file is not uploaded to build it, and it lists every secret it finds so you can move it to an n8n credential.

## What is not exported

| Not in the export | What to do |
|---|---|
| **Connections** (app logins, OAuth tokens) | Reconnect each app once in n8n as a credential |
| **Catch-hook URLs** | n8n gives every Webhook node its own URL. Point each sender (form, app, script) at the new one. Zapier's URLs change even when Zaps are copied between accounts ([Zapier docs](https://help.zapier.com/hc/en-us/articles/22295149489549)) |
| **Storage by Zapier values** | The steps are exported, the stored values are not. Copy the keys you still need by hand. Zapier deletes Storage keys after two months without use ([Storage by Zapier](https://help.zapier.com/hc/en-us/articles/8496293271053)) |
| **Zapier Tables rows** | Download each table as CSV from Tables, then import it into an n8n Data Table or your database |
| **Digest entries** waiting to be released | Release or note them before you switch, or they are lost |
| **Zap history** | A separate export of up to 5,000 runs as CSV or JSON ([Zap history export](https://help.zapier.com/hc/en-us/articles/8496294549005)). Useful as test data |
| **Forms pages, Interfaces, Chatbot UI** | Rebuild them; in n8n the Form Trigger and Chat Trigger are the nearest equivalents |

## The editor's JSON export (Team and Enterprise)

On Team and Enterprise plans, the Zap owner can open a Zap, click the Zap name, and pick **Export a JSON data file of your Zap**. Admins also get bulk JSON downloads in Settings ([Import and export Zap workflows](https://help.zapier.com/hc/en-us/articles/8496308481933)).

These files work, with one catch: **they renumber the steps**. The Zap's steps become 1, 2, 3 and so on, and classic mappings like `{{2__email}}` are rewritten to match. Newer mappings, written as `{{=gives["380372845"]["email"]}}`, keep the original ids, which no longer exist in the file. A converter then has to guess which step they meant. The account ZIP has none of this problem because it keeps the real ids, so use it when you can. The report accepts both.

The Team trial doesn't include JSON import and export ([Team trial limitations](https://help.zapier.com/hc/en-us/articles/8496197192461)).

## Other routes, and why they don't help

- **Shared Zap templates** don't include the values you entered in fields, and Zaps with code or Paths can't be shared as copies. Zapier deprecates them on December 15, 2026 ([Shared Zap templates](https://help.zapier.com/hc/en-us/articles/8496292155405)).
- **Zapier's API** has no way for an outside tool to list your Zaps.
- **Screenshots and the PNG export** are fine as a record but useless to a converter.

## Next: drop it into the free report

1. Open the [Zapier to n8n report](/zapier-to-n8n) and drop the ZIP or `zapfile.json`.
2. Each Zap gets a status: converts automatically, needs a check, or needs manual work. You also get the list of accounts to reconnect and an effort estimate.
3. Convert one Zap free to try it. The rest can be converted with a one-time plan.

Before you rebuild anything, the [Filters, Paths, Formatter and Code guide](/zapier-paths-formatter-code-to-n8n) shows how Zapier's built-in steps work in n8n. To check whether the move saves money at your volume, read [Zapier vs n8n cost](/zapier-vs-n8n-cost).

## Checklist

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I export Zaps on the Zapier Free or Professional plan?

Yes. Settings → Security and data → Download my account data, or Download all private and shared Zaps. Both email you a ZIP within minutes, and the zapfile.json inside holds every Zap, drafts included. We checked both buttons on a new account in October 2026.

### What is zapfile.json?

The file in Zapier's account ZIP that holds your Zap definitions: each Zap's title, on/off status and steps, with app, action, field values and Zapier's own step ids. It is the file a Zapier to n8n converter needs.

### Does the Zapier export include my connections or passwords?

Connections are not exported, only a numeric id for each one, so you reconnect every app in the new tool. But anything you typed straight into a field, such as an API key in a webhook header or in a Code step, is in the file as plain text. Treat the ZIP as sensitive.

### What is the difference between the editor's JSON export and the account ZIP?

The editor's "Export a JSON data file" is documented as Team and Enterprise only and covers one Zap. It renumbers step ids, so newer field references can point at steps that no longer exist in the file. The account ZIP keeps the real ids for every Zap.

### Do I need to keep my Zaps running while I migrate?

Yes. Exporting doesn't change or pause anything in Zapier. Keep each Zap on until its n8n copy has run correctly, then turn the Zap off.
